What even IS coaching?

Consider a sport coach. They work with you on a consistent basis. They watch your form, they critique your times. They push you when you’ve got it in you, but you’re just not doing it. They shout encouragement as you’re rounding the hardest part of the course. They jump for joy and hug you at the finish line. In my world, that looks like heart-to-hearts & business strategy via video chat, email strings back and forth, snail mail encouragement and the push you need to make legit steps toward your goals and dreams.

How does it work? Practically…

There are a few options based on your financial resources and time! You can go the intensive route, where we would spend a straight 3 hours or a full day together strategizing and creating a plan. Or, you can do a 3 or 6 month program, where we would chat several times a month, each session strategizing, challenging, encouraging with specific action items coming out of each!

How do I know it will be worth the money I put in? Will I earn that money back/see a return on my investment?

The big kahuna right here. This is THE question of the day, week, year! We’re small business owners and we want to be wise with our money, and we’re afraid it will just go down the drain. I mean, really, how can just talking to someone every few weeks actually be worth my hard-earned dollars?? 😉 First, let me just say, I totally, completely get it and I’m SO proud of you for wanting to be wise with your money! I’ve been there. I’m still there! Every financial decision I make is carefully considered, and it should be! The hard truthful answer to this question is that the return on your investment is actually mostly dependent on your response to our time together. I can’t promise you dollar amounts, I can’t promise you conversion rates…but I CAN promise you that if you enter our relationship with a teachable heart and willingness to do the work – you WILL grow. Your business will be better for it. Your heart, your family and your friends will thank you for it. You see, I care about building meaningful and sustainable businesses. Sustainable implies profitable and I certainly teach ways to do that – HOWEVER – I’m more concerned about your heart and the way you run your business, treat your clients and balance your life. BUTTTT the best part?! Businesses that focus on those foundational, feel-y, important parts last. It’s just true. Many of the most successful CEO’s and businesses have a handle on the heart behind their work and because that influences the way they do things – they see success. SO – all that to say, YES, absolutely, I do believe you will receive a return on your investment (and I have plenty of my wonderful clients to confirm this!) – in both heart, process and dollars. ❤️

How can I justify hiring a coach when I’m barely making any profit?

Although it may seem counter-intuitive, the truth is, when you invest your time and money into working ON your business, you learn how to make a profit and how to use that profit well. I honestly believe if I had invested in a coach early on in my career, it wouldn’t have taken me as long to quit my full-time job. I wouldn’t have lost so much money on the wrong things (hello educational programs I never actually did). I would have grown so much faster and enjoyed life a lot more. The question here is whether you’re ready to get serious about moving forward and growing the right way.

 

Why would I spend money on a coach when there is SO MUCH FREE HELP online?

Girl, you’re absolutely right!! The internet is AMAZING and we have so much incredible content at our fingertips! I mean, heck, everyone thinks they can be a photographer these days because YouTube can teach you everything! Or can it… 🤷🏽‍♀️ 😉 Here’s the difference. Although there’s so much free education available to you online – none of that content is a real LIVE person who knows about your business, your market, your heart. It’s practical, it’s SUPER helpful, but it can also be overwhelming. A big part of coaching is having someone who knows what YOU need to work on. Because, the truth is…not everyone needs to blog 3 times a week. Not everyone needs to focus their efforts on Instagram. But your Google search bar doesn’t know that. I think one of the most common frustrations I hear from the ladies I talk to is “I just don’t know what to do first. Or what will actually get me clients/sales.”So, friend, eat that content up, apply what you can, but at some point, you’ll need to limit your inputs and work on the most important things that will actually get you closer to your goals.

What if I feel like I already know what I need to do to grow my business?

I’ll answer your question with a question. 😉 Are you doing it? What is it that you need to be doing to grow your business and why is it either not happening or not working? There’s a good chance you need the push, the accountability, or even just the encouragement that you 100% CAN get it done! A big part of my role as a coach is to push you and encourage you, because girl – you are capable of SO MUCH MORE than you know. And I say that with 100% confidence. So, if you already know the answers, what’s the hold up?

Does hiring a coach mean I’ve failed?

Ahhhhh GIRL I JUST WANT TO HUG YOU!!! No no no no no no!!! Let me say it again NO! You are not a failure and admitting a need for help is actually the opposite. It means you’re mature enough to admit you don’t have it all together. And you know how I feel about that idea…NOBODY has it all together. Nobodyyyyy. But get this. Those people you see as super successful and just KILLIN it?! They have coaches. Yep. Probably all of them that you’re thinking of. Jenna Kutcher. Katelyn James. Justin & Mary. Whoever it is that you follow who has several zero’s and a ‘K’ behind their follower count on Instagram….probably has a coach. So let me say it one more time. NOPE. You’re not even close to a failure. Hiring a coach is not an indication of failure. Hiring a coach is a WIN. A wise investment. An indication that you’re ready to grow like crazy.

I feel like I need to grow more on my own before investing in a coach. I don’t think I’m ready. How do I know when I’m ready?

I think there are 3 main indicators that you’re ready to work with a coach:

  1. You have a business, a dream or an idea that you believe in with all your heart at any stage. I’ve worked with people who only had a tiny thought of an idea that we brought to life and I’ve worked with people who have built a successful business already and just needed direction on a specific project or a plan to take their business to the next level.
  2. You’re willing to take time to do the work and you’re ready to hear the hard truth about what you can improve.
  3. You have a plan for the financial investment. Either you have the cash, you have contracted income coming in or you have awesome parents willing to lend you the money to grow your business 😉 💃🏼
